  • Loose loungewear with drawstring waist

  • Thick socks

  • Dressing gown

  • Slippers/flip flops

  • Loose nightwear. If you choose to breastfeed, a buttoned top or nightie

  • High waisted (in case of C-section), 5-7 big cotton black pants. Size up

  • Nursing/non-wired bras x 2

  • Breast pads

  • Nipple cream & shields

  • Maternity pads (1 pack)

  • Facial spray

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste

  • Shower gel & shampoo

  • Dry shampoo

  • Hairbrush

  • Face wipes & moisturiser

  • Deodorant

  • Lip balm

  • Make-up bag (if you want to)

  • Sports bottle

  • Handheld fan

  • Spare glasses/contact lenses (if you use them)

  • Phone charger

  • Headphones for video calls/listening to music

  • Birth plan & maternity notes

  • Snacks & drinks (for you & your partner)

  • Optional: TENS machine for easing contractions – rent or buy. Your hospital may have one to rent. Check beforehand

 

For Your Baby


  • Cotton vests that fold down

  • Babygrows (at least 2 per day in case of accidents). Pack two sizes (new-born and 0-3
    months)

  • Scratch mitts, beanie hat x 2 (1 cotton & 1 wool) & socks

  • Pram suit if cold or layers if warm. Remove pram suit before putting baby in a car seat

  • Baby blanket

  • Muslin cloths

  • Nappies (1 pack – new-born size)

  • Cotton wool/unscented, non-alcohol wipes

  • Sterile bottles, teats & formula if bottle-feeding

  • Car seat – practise fitting it in the car a few times before going to the hospital

 

For Your Partner


  • Download hospital parking app in advance (if available)

  • Spare clothes (in case of overnight stay)

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste

  • Sports bottle

  • Phone & charger

  • Change for car park/meter/vending machine

  • Massage oil

  • Birthing ball & pump (check with hospital)
